What can cause it to turn on?
The EPC light on your vehicle can turn on for a range of reasons, ranging from a generic warning to a more serious underlying issue. When the drivetrain computer recognizes a read out of a normal system spec, it stores it in the system as an EPC code, automatically placing the vehicle into limp-in mode.
The potential issues with the vehicle can include:
- Fuel metering, timing, or emissions malfunctions
- Engine speed sensor failure
- Other malfunctioning sensors, including the crank or cam position sensor, mass airflow sensor, and the brake light switch
- Traction control problems
- Vehicle stability control problems
- Cruise control or throttle system problems
