2025 Volkswagen Tiguan

At any point, we should receive news of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan, the definitively European contribution to the 2025 compact SUV segment. With plenty of competitors already on the market, the hype is real and expectations are high.

But you don’t have to wait with bated breath to know what to expect. The European version of the 2025 Tiguan has already dropped. From it, we have an idea of what to expect from its North American counterpart. Read on for our new model preview.

What’s changing for the Volkswagen Tiguan in 2025?

While the details of the North American Tiguan model haven’t been released yet, the European version offers some clues as to what to expect. The new Tiguan will certainly sit on VW’s MQB Evo platform, offering some major under-the-hood improvements. These include:

  • Higher performance from the powertrain
  • Smoother driving and road feel
  • Additional safety features to improve the driving experience

Additionally, the new Tiguan will offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain option that can run up to 62 miles just on electric power. Finally, we can expect a revamped interior and exterior from the new Tiguan. These upgrades include new HD matrix headlights, a 15-inch infotainment screen, ergonomically designed seats with four-way lumbar support, and increased cargo space.

2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Preview: Features, specs, & performance

With a longer body, updated suspension and platform, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option, the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan promises to make a statement within the compact SUV segment. Although many details have yet to be announced, here are some of the changes we can expect to see this year.

Powertrain & performance

Although the details for the 2025 Tiguan’s powertrain haven’t been announced yet, word on the street is to expect a turbo 2.0-L inline-four for the base model. There’s also going to be an optional plug-in hybrid engine. If Volkswagen is true to form, this will be paired with an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission.

On previous models, front-wheel drive was standard, but all-wheel drive is optional. It’s a safe bet this will continue for 2025. The 2024 Tiguan makes 184 horsepower and can hit 60 mph in 9.1 seconds. If the powertrain gets a boost for 2025, expect these performance figures to also go up.

Fuel economy & driving range

According to the EPA, last year’s Tiguan had a gas mileage of 23 mpg city, 30 highway, and 26 combined. We expect that to improve slightly this year. The new PHEV models should have much better gas mileage, and we’re already told to expect a 62-mile driving range on electric power only.

Interior Features

One of the biggest changes for 2025 is the increased dimensions that allow for more cargo space and legroom. The Tiguan is already one of the few crossovers to offer three rows of seating, so the added cargo space will make this model even more attractive.

The 2025 Tiguan should also feature Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit, which replaces the traditional dashboard with a customizable digital gauge display. Additionally, this feature places real-time updates and information directly into the driver’s line of sight.

Other interior features include power-adjustable massaging seats, a gear selector placed into the steering column, and foldable second- and third-row seats.

Infotainment and connectivity

Expect a stunning 15.0-inch infotainment touchscreen that’s available on the new Tiguan, although the 12.0-inch may be the standard-issue model. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also come standard.

Warranty & maintenance coverage

Expect the 2025 Tiguan to come with Volkswagen’s typical warranty package. This includes a four-year or 50,000 bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, plus a powertrain warranty covering five years or 60,000. Volkswagen’s Carefree Coverage plan gets you two years or 200,000 miles of scheduled maintenance at no additional cost.
